The Dutch Burgher Union Newsletter - January 2007 President's Message Dear Fellow Member, There's a season for beginnings, when the world is fresh and new; when we shape our dreams of all the things we plan and hope to do. A season for maturing, when we think and work and grow and a season for the harvesting of all we've come to know and each successive season grow still richer than the last; as treasures of the present add to memories of the past. Members of the General Committee and I wish you and your families, very happy and peaceful New Year 2007, filled with happy days, eventful happenings and good fortune to rejoice and celebrate, making it a year just wonderful and memorable in every way. With all good wishes, Subscriptions for 2007 Subscriptions for the year 2007 should be paid on or before the thirty first of January re Rule 9.6 of the Constitution. The revised rates, inclusive of VAT, are as follows:- Senior Citizens (above the age of 65 years) may continue to pay the old rates - Gents Rs.240.00; Ladies Rs. 120.00. A well written book published by Dorian Gray is available in all the leading book stores. We congratulate Linda and also Dorian on a beautifully illustrated publication. Social Welfare Activities The year 2006 was a very successful year for the Social Service and Welfare sector or the DBU, which was brought to a close hosting the elderly and the young to exciting Christmas parties. On the 5th of December the locally sponsored children were invited to participate in the St. Nikolaas Fete and on the 19th of December the welfare beneficiaries to a morning of great run and laughter. Every senior citizen invited to the party received a handsome Christmas bonus through the kind generosity of the Eighty Club and the DBU Members. There was plenty of good food and beverages. Darlan and his combo were in attendance and kept their toes tapping and the air was filled with Christmas Carols. selection or a Beauty Queen took place when Mrs Grace Walles was crowned and sashed by the Queen or 2005 Ms Evadne van Rooyen. Present with us that morning as Chief Guest was Mr. Darryl Isaaks, Co-ordinator of the Welfare Beneficiaries or the Eighty Club of Melbourne, and I am sure he took back with him very pleasant memories. On the 21st of December the ECOM sponsored children were hosted to Christmas Party at which once again Mr Darryl Isaaks and his wire June were present to join in the fun. Besides the delectable food and drinks and ice cream there was a Bouncer erected on the front lawn and the children participated in several exciting games where prizes were awarded to the, inners. The children too received cash gifts from ECOM. On the same morning special cash awards were handed out to the winners of the P & M Forster Award Scheme for the improvement of English skills where recipients were selected by our President Mrs. Kem Martenstyn after judging their ability. These cash awards were made possible by the kind courtesy of Mr and Mrs. Maurice Forster Mr Darryl Isaaks presented the awards to the children. Mr Darryl Isaaks and his wife June were holidaying ill Sri Lanka to Ollll1lClllorate their Golden Wedding, and we take this opportunity to congratulate them and wish them both all happiness and good health in the ears to come. ANTHEA MULLER - Chairperson Social Welfare St Nikolaus' I-lame A Christmas party was organized for the Residents of the Home on the 081h December 2006. The Matron and staff had made the Home look very lovely and there was plenty of food and drink and each resident received a gift. It was a happy and enjoyable evening for all, specially the Residents who danced their cares away. Rev.Charlie Jansz graced the occasion. We say a big "thank-you" to all who have given donations to the Home in cash and kind during the year 2006, especially the St. Nikolaas & Brahier Memorial Homes Trust and the Burgher Welfare League of Western Australia.
