Welcome Message from the General Committee (2007)

Welcome to the Dutch Burgher Union website where we are proud to chronicle our history as well as provide contemporary news of the DBU which celebrates its centenary in 2008. Launching the website on 22nd October, 2007 is no coincidence. As many are aware, 22nd October is Founder’s Day, which is the birthday of the Founder of the DBU, R.G. Anthonisz, and a date which was adopted as the Union’s anniversary more than half a century ago. Indeed, today the Dutch Burgher Union is officially 99 years old!

The history of any institution spanning a century can be expected to be wide and varied and the DBU is certainly no exception. Sourcing and featuring information across such a time-span is an extensive exercise, but we certainly have made the all-important start and anticipate considerable growth through collective participation (contributions) from people around the globe.

In fact, such a contribution to this website has already been made and one that is unarguably of the greatest significance. This is the inclusion of the Journals of the Dutch Burgher Union which we are particularly delighted to feature. Further, the genealogies published in these Journals have been independently featured for ease of access. For making these available to us, we are greatly indebted to Mr Victor Melder from Australia who needs no introduction, and to whom we are also grateful for his guidance and encouragement throughout the development of this website.

In the coming weeks or even months, much more will be added to the site, a period in which we anticipate carrying out some fine-tuning as well. We welcome any relevant content from all those who wish to see this website flourish and your suggestions on enhancing its qualities are also most welcome.

The General Committee members nominated as Administrators of the DBU website are Anne-Marie Kellar, Dallas Martenstyn and David Colin-Thomé.

Happy browsing!
